Spring, particularly in March, is the best time to go on a ski vacation. The days are getting longer, the sun is warmer, there are tons of free concerts and fun events at the ski resorts, the chances of getting fresh power turns are still high, and to top it off schools and colleges close for spring break. Here’s our roundup of the best spring ski resort events of 2014.

In the springtime there’s nothing like cruising around Breckenridge’s smooth, manicured groomers in the warm, Colorado sunshine, lapping the award-winning terrain parks in a t-shirt or enjoying a couple drinks at one of the many lively base area patios. Breckenridge’s month-long Spring Fever events commence on March 15 for an early St. Patty’s Day celebration. Spring Fever is presented by Barefoot Wine and is held at T-Bar and Sevens Restaurant from 2 to 5 p.m. and includes contests, drink discounts, giveaways, a photo booth, drink recipes and more. If your spring break runs into early April, don’t miss the Breckenridge Spring Beer Festival on April 5. Held in downtown Breckenridge, the festival will host more than 30 breweries, which will be providing tasters of their craft brews. Local restaurants will also be showcasing delicious food to pair with the beer.

Canyon’s famed “Ski Beach” is the place in Utah to crack a cold one, sun in lawn chairs and watch skiers and snowboarders come down the slopes. Wrap up the perfect day exploring Canyons’ 4,000 skiable acres with the ultimate après-ski party at the base area’s free Saturday concerts, which run February 15 through April 13. Some of the great acts include Sensations for Soul (March 1), a Utah-based funk band, This Must Be the Band (March 8), an exceptional Talking Heads cover band and Steel Pulse, a famous reggae band from the late 70s and 80s.

The rumors are true: Aspen, Colorado knows how to party. Aspen’s Bud Light Spring Jam packs competitions, downtown concerts and parties into two wild weekends, March 14 to March 23. The scheduled competitions include Big Air Fridays, which are held March 14 and 28 at 2 p.m. at Snowmass, KickAspen Big Air, held Saturday, March 15 at 8 p.m., at the base of Aspen Mountain, and the Helly Hansen Battle in the Bowls, held March 23 at 9:30 a.m. at Aspen Highlands’ Highland Bowl. The Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert will be held at the Base of Aspen Mountain on March 14, and the CORE Party will be held in downtown Aspen Friday, March 21 with music from DJ Naka G and Beats Antique. All events are free and open to the public.

Colorado's Copper Mountain is celebrating St. Patty’s Day on Saturday, March 15. After enjoying a full day on Copper’s perfectly (and naturally) segmented terrain in your best green ski suit, enjoy live music by Von Stomper in the base area from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by an incredible firework display. In the evening, experience Copper in a new light. Participate in the free full moon snowshoe tour and enjoy the Rockies by moonlight.

There’s nothing like cruising around Vail’s sunny Back Bowls in the spring followed up by an après-ski cocktail on a sun-blessed patio at one of the many hoppin’ base village hotspots. If your spring break coincides with the first week of March, you’re going to want to head to Vail, Colorado so you can watch the world’s best snowboarders compete in the Burton U.S. Open, March 3-8. Invited athletes include recent Olympians Shaun White, Mark McMorris, Ayumu Hirano and more. The competitions get started around 6:30 p.m. and are followed by two incredible free concerts by Big Gigantic, Friday, March 7, and Capital Cities, Saturday, March 8. If your spring break is later on in March you can enjoy the Vail Film Festival. Aside from screening the top films of the year, the festival includes an awards ceremony, panel discussions, ski and snowboard events and VIP parties.

Heavenly’s Unbuckle après-ski party at the Tamarack Lodge has quickly become one of the hottest weekend events in skiing. The Heavenly Angels go-go dancers, live DJ sets, half-priced drink specials and California sunshine make any spring weekend at Heavenly one to remember. And if you don’t remember it, don’t worry; EpicMix photographers are onsite to capture all the rowdiness. If your spring break falls towards the end of March or early April, you’ll be treated to Spring Loaded festivities which features live music, loud outfits, the U.S. Freestyle National Championships and more of those lovely Heavenly Angels.
