I had the personal pleasure of living in Bend, OR for about four years and I was able to get in quite a few days of riding at Mt. Bachelor. When thinking of “Bachy” (as some locals fondly refer to Mt. Bachelor) the image that comes to mind is that of a stunning volcano in the distance. You wind your way up a beautiful mountain drive that (in the winter) ends at the two base lodges, and easy chairlift access. One of the coolest things about the ski area is that from the top, you can ski down in any direction. I remember looking out and slowly spinning around, taking in all 360 degrees of view and skiable terrain, I had so many lines to choose from, all I wanted to do was continue doing laps from the top of Summit Express because there was so much great snow. (Call me up, I could go on about the skiing for some time.) When you enjoy a family ski vacation at Mt. Bachelor, you can stay in Sun River, in the town of Bend, or along Century Drive, which is the road from Bend to the ski area. There is a draw to staying at each, but if you are looking for a night life you will definitely want to stay in Bend. There is great food, award winning breweries, a fun and lively downtown where you can walk to multiple music venues and dance clubs.
