No one will complain about being bored on a Canyons family ski vacation. The convenience of having three resorts (Canyons, Deer Valley and Park City), with different types of terrain and experiences, all centered around a world-class ski town, Park City, makes Canyons an ideal family ski destination. The duality of a Canyons family ski vacation is part of the appeal. Canyons especially caters to low-key, “family time,” with family friendly restaurants, and a relaxed evening experience. While families in search of a little more excitement can head into Park City, which is brimming with shopping, restaurants and family-friendly activities.
Canyons terrain is best reserved for families who have a couple years of skiing under their belt, as the terrain trends towards intermediate to expert. The resort is massive, so nearly everyone in the family can find trails right for them. There are beginner trails scattered throughout the resort. But, “never evers,” or first time skiers, may want to opt for sister resort, Park City, but that’s the beauty of a Canyons family ski vacation.
Great for families due to its convenient location, the Grand Summit Hotel—a AAA Four-Diamond resort—is an exceptional ski in, ski out facility. Just steps from the Orange Bubble Express and the vibrant Village, the Grand Summit Hotel puts families in the middle of all of the action. Its amenities and services combined with its assortment of residences are sure to help create lasting memories. Guests can choose from guest rooms, spacious studios or one- or two-bedroom residences complete with full kitchens featuring stainless appliances and coffee makers.
Canyons family restaurants offer dining experiences ranging from casual to upscale, all with menu items that will please both young, picky eaters to adults with a refined palate. For a “stay-in” evening, families can order a pie from Canyons Pizza Company to their condo or hotel room, or grab lunch or dinner at Red Tail Grill, which features great salads, burgers and Mexican, sure to please every family member. The whole family will enjoy Drafts Sports Bar and Grill with their gourmet bar food menu. Their acclaimed burgers and stone-hearthed pizza, will delight parents and children alike. Throw in their 50 draft beers on tap, and beer-loving parents won’t want to go anywhere else.
Canyons is a great place for young groms to progress their terrain park skills. Young snowboarders or aspiring snowboarders−age three to six− will thrive at the Burton Riglet Park, located near the Red Pine lodge. This mini park features seven small features specifically designed to introduce small children to park “jibbing.” Youngsters and beginner terrain park riders and skiers, should also head to the Painted Horse Progression Park, off of Saddleback Express lift. The park offers small and medium features, allowing the whole family to try it out.
