Mammoth Budget

0 / 5

Since the first chairlift was built in 1955 by Dave McCoy, who owned the resort up until a few years ago, Mammoth has enjoyed popularity as a weekend or day-trip resort. While it still does see large California crowds, Mammoth has become a new hotspot for destination tourists in the last decade thanks to several hundred million in renovations. This is good news for the skier of snowboarder on a Mammoth budget ski vacation, as there are a variety of affordable lodging and dining options to address both the local weekend warrior families and travelers from afar.

Mammoth Budget Hotels

Mammoth offers numerous budget hotels and condos. Below you’ll find Ski.com’s top budget picks. To learn more about these properties, call, or chat with, one of Ski.com’s knowledgeable Mountain Vacation Specialists.

At Alpenhof Lodge guests can enjoy elegant lodge rooms or three-bedroom deluxe rustic cabins on the shores of Twin Lakes, all for a reasonable price. Alpenhof provides full kitchens in their cabins, making it a great option for families or those on a budget who are looking to save some money by cooking meals in the unit. Family-owned and –operated, the Alpenhof Lodge is in the heart of it all—just steps from the Village at Mammoth and the Village Gondola. The lodge offers a slew of amenities, including a 24-hour front desk, a recreational room with games, like billiards, and onsite restaurants and bars—Petra’s Bistro and Wine Bar and the Clocktower Cellar Pub.

Mammoth Affordable Restaurants

Since the resort is driving distance from Los Angeles and San Francisco, and is a popular weekend trip for city-slickers, you can bet that the restaurants can’t get away with serving up mediocre fare. Mammoth affordable restaurants range from Cali-Mex food to tasty pub eats, pizza, deli sandwiches and bakeries, and are sure to please those on the hunt for high quality and value. For breakfast, lunch or a sweet, flaky afternoon pastry Schat’s Bakery, on Main Street, is the place to go. Don’t miss their flaky, moist croissants, or croissant sandwiches, empanadas or any of their pastries. You’re going to need some willpower. Mammoth has two great, and affordable Mexican joints, Jalapeño and Salsa’s, both located on Old Mammoth Road. For beers, apps and heartier fare, an après-ski meal or two are in order at Clocktower Cellar Pub in the Alpenhof Lodge. You’ll want to try the burgers—which are served on pretzel buns—or the pulled pork, and be sure to sample a couple items on Clocktower’s extensive whiskey list. Vegans and vegetarians will be pleased with Stellar Brew and Deli’s, on Main Street, healthy wraps and sandwiches.
