Whitefish Restaurants

Despite being in the more remote reaches of the U.S., this resort, and its surrounding town will pleasantly surprise diners. Whitefish restaurants range from classic American pub food to modern mountain fare, to Italian, Japanese, Creole to French crepes, barbeque and Western steakhouses. You’ll be hard pressed to find such a varied−and high quality− restaurant scene, in and around a resort that is renowned for being “quiet” and having non-existent lift lines.

Whitefish Dining

If you’re looking for an unbeatable meal made with local ingredients, served in a quaint atmosphere, look no further than Whitefish’s best, Café Kandahar, in the Kandahar Lodge. This local favorite has an upmarket menu with reasonable prices and an unpretentious ambiance. Diners can experience modern American flavors from beet gnocchi and lobster and asparagus bisque to elk roulade and veal chop with lavender and pink peppercorns. The huckleberry tart, made from the local berry, is a dessert item you don’t want to miss. The Boat Club Restaurant, on Wisconsin Avenue, is sure to please Whitefish restaurant-goers looking for a nice meal with a nice view. This lakefront experience features a menu ranging from Pacific seafood and steak to Montana cuisine. The Boat Club uses organic produce in salads and desserts whenever possible.

For diners looking for laidback dining experiences a meal at the Buffalo Café and Nightly Grill, on 3rd Street, is a must. This café serves up a mean Western breakfast, as well as the best burgers in town. The Shak, on Spokane Avenue, is a treat for barbeque and Cajun enthusiasts. You can find everything from classic fixin’s like homemade baked beans, coleslaw, fried okra and fried pickles to barbeque smoked pulled pork or spare ribs. It’s all good, fresh and homemade to perfection. Hellroaring Saloon and Eater offers a great pub-style menu and great convenience, as the restaurant is located at the ski area’s original Chalet in the base village.

Sushi in Montana may not be the first thing you think of, but if you’ve got a hankering for Japanese food and fresh fish, Wasabi Sushi Bar, on 2nd Street, will please the most discerning sushi aficionados. Just be sure to make a reservation, as it’s a popular restaurant with visitors and tourists, alike.
